It is located about 300 miles from Las Vegas. The park is 1,218,376 acres, the canyon itself is 277 river-miles in length and the park encompasses about 1,900 square miles.
The 18 miles wide massive canyon has been carved over several million years by the Colorado River. It’s a brilliant, colorful, steep-sided gorge, and also is one of the Seven Wonders Of the World.
The national park is a World Heritage Site visited by approximately 4.5 million people each year. It’s one of the world’s premier natural attractions, and is home to many species of plants, insects, reptiles, birds, and mammals, to name a few, also which a number are of threatened or endangered species. It was made a national monument in 1908 and became a national park in 1919.
The Grand Canyon is a national treasure, but it belongs to the world as well. It’s a wonder of the world, and should be free for all to enjoy. It is noted as a geologic wonder, not particularly a wildlife park, it’s a national park and has become a national landmark.
It is vast, surreal, amazing, unbelievable, and is unmatched throughout the world for the vistas it offers to visitors on the rim, providing one of the most breath-taking sights the world has to offer. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen, and a place that can been seen only in person to fully understand its awe inspiring beauty.
